Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
Today’s Waiting on Wednesday post is for Scorch (Croak #2) by Gina Damico (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). NOTE: There are spoilers for book one in the summary, so if you’re planning on reading Croak, don’t read any further!
Sixteen-year-old Lex Bartleby is a teenage grim reaper with the bizarre ability to damn souls. That makes her pretty scary, even to fellow Grims. But after inadvertently transferring her ability to Zara, a murderous outlaw, Lex is a pariah in Croak, the little town she calls home. To escape the townspeople’s wrath, she and her friends embark on a wild road trip to DeMyse. Though this sparkling desert oasis is full of luxuries and amusements, it feels like a prison to Lex. Her best chance at escape would be to stop Zara once and for all—but how can she do that from DeMyse, where the Grims seem mysteriously oblivious to Zara’s killing spree?
Why I’m looking forward to this book:
I loved, Loved, LOVED Croak (see my review HERE)! Lex is a fabulous narrator, and the growing relationship between her and Driggs is so spot-on and perfect, and such a change from the relationships you see in most YA paranormal books. I am so looking forward to her next adventure, and learning more about her gifts, and her friends, and the world of the Reapers. If you haven’t yet read Croak, do yourself a favor and give it a read! It’s a completely fun, rip-roaring adventure that I think you’ll love.
Release Date: September 25, 2012
