BLOG TOUR: First Frost by Liz DeJesus

I’m so excited to be a part of the Blog Tour for First Frost by Liz DeJesus! This book incorporates fairy tales, which are some of my most favorite topics in the entire world. To help spread the excitement for this book, author Liz DeJesus has stopped by today with a guest post, featuring an interview with some of her characters. Read on to learn more about First Frost, and don’t forget to add it to your to-read list!

For generations, the Frost family has run the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts, handing down guardianship from mother to daughter, always keeping their secrets to “family only.”

Gathered within the museum’s walls is a collection dedicated to the Grimm fairy tales and to the rare items the family has acquired: Cinderella’s glass slipper, Snow White’s poisoned apple, the evil queen’s magic mirror, Sleeping Beauty’s enchanted spinning wheel…

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Frost wants none of it, dreaming instead of a career in art or photography or…well, anything except working in the family’s museum. She knows the items in the glass display cases are fakes because, of course, magic doesn’t really exist.

She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Guest Post

Ming: So what exactly are we doing here?

Bianca: I owe my friend Liz a favor. She asked me to be interviewed for a blog tour. So here I am. I figured that the best person to interview me was my best friend. That’s where you come in.

Ming: Ohhh, that’s cool. Are we gonna talk about the book she wrote?

Bianca: Yep. It’s titled First Frost.

Ming: Yeah, that’s the title. So what’s it about?

Bianca: It’s about me and my family. It’s also about the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts, where I work with my mom, Rose. The story starts with me complaining about a broken vacuum cleaner…it gets a little crazy after that. I find out that the stuff in the museum is actually real and that all the fairy tales are true stories. All that stuff actually happened to Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel and everyone else you’ve ever heard of. There’s an evil witch named Lenore that’s trying to kill us.

Ming: Woah. That’s crazy! What did she want?

Bianca: She’s after an old spell book that once belonged to Queen Mirabel. She was Snow White’s stepmother.

Ming: Wow.

Bianca: Another thing I found out was that Snow White is my great-great-great grandmother.

Ming: That’s a lot of greats.

Bianca: I almost had a nervous breakdown in the Wicked Wing because I realized that all of the items in the museum are in fact real.

Ming: That’s twenty different kinds of crazy.

Bianca: I know! Can you imagine someone getting their finger pricked on Sleeping Beauty’s Spinning Wheel?

Ming: Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’d have a nervous breakdown too. Anyway, why did you tell Liz your story?

Bianca: I like Liz. She laughs at my jokes and she believed me when I told her that a witch was trying to kill me. If that’s not a match made in heaven then I don’t know what is.

Ming: So what else happens in the book?

Bianca: My mom gets kidnapped by Lenore and I have to find the spell book in order to rescue her.

Ming: Oooh! I remember that part, I helped you look for the book in the museum.

Bianca: *giggle* I know. You freaked out over a spider. You can be such a baby sometimes.

Ming: Hey! My life was in danger. And you know how I feel about spiders.

Bianca: Can we get back to the task at hand, please?

Ming: So what else happened?

Bianca: We found the spell book, and grabbed a few items to help us along the way.

Ming: Such as?

Bianca: Rapunzel’s hair, the brick from the Third Little Pig’s house, Red Riding Hood’s cape and a few other things that I’ll keep to myself.

Ming: What do those things do?

Bianca: You’ll have to read the book to find out.

Ming: Are you gonna sit and tell Liz more of your stories?

Bianca: Of course! We’re in the middle of a new book as we speak. I’ve also given her a few teasers as to what happened to me when I went to Wonderland. Poor woman, she can’t write fast enough to keep up with me.

Ming: That’s twenty different kinds of crazy.

Bianca: You say that a lot. Are there in fact that many types of crazy?

Ming: There are, I will list them to you.

Bianca: Please don’t.

Ming: Crazy, insane, ridiculous, foolish, silly, idiotic, senseless…

Bianca: Someone save me now.

Ming: …mad, bizarre, peculiar, weird, zany, odd, ludicrous, stupid, absurd, preposterous, nonsensical, outrageous and outlandish.

Bianca: Is it over? Are you officially finished? Have we spared these poor people more of your idle chit chat?

Ming: Some people think my chit chat is cute.

Bianca: *sigh* If you say so. Anyway if there is anyone out there still reading this, please check out my friend Liz DeJesus’ book First Frost. I think you’ll all enjoy it. The book has a little bit of everything: fairy tales, witches, magic, action, romance and smart ass remarks by yours truly.

Thank you to Liz, and also Bianca and Ming, for stopping by my blog! If this book sounds interesting to you – and I know it does to me! – you can add First Frost to your Goodreads HERE.
