Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
This week’s Waiting on Wednesday post is for Dark Triumph by R.L. LaFevers (Houghton Mifflin):
Sybella arrives at the convent’s doorstep half mad with grief and despair. Those that serve Death are only too happy to offer her refuge—but at a price. Naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, the convent views Sybella as one of their most dangerous weapons.
But those assassin’s skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to a life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. And while Sybella is a weapon of justice wrought by the god of Death himself, He must give her a reason to live. When she discovers an unexpected ally imprisoned in the dungeons, will a daughter of Death find something other than vengeance to live for?
This heart-pounding sequel to Grave Mercy serves betrayal, treachery, and danger in equal measure, bringing readers back to fifteenth century Brittany and will keep them on the edge of their seats.
Why I’m looking forward to this book:
I loved, Loved, LOVED Grave Mercy! I have a huge soft spot for historical romance books, and am fairly certain that is why Grave Mercy wound up being one of my favorite reads of the year to this point. Sybella, the main character in this book, was one that I was thoroughly intrigued with in the first book, and I look forward to learning more about her. What was her task? How did she wind up in Anne’s court? Will we see anymore of Ismae or Duval? (Okay, that part is just me being greedy.) All in all I just really want to read this book RIGHT NOW.
Release Date: April 2, 2013

I just saw the cover the other day and I can’t wait for this!!!! :) Great choice.
I still need to read Grave Mercy, it’s sitting right here beside me in a TBR pile:) But this sounds amazing and I am a sucker for girls with weapons! Great choice.
Here’s my WOW pick.
Oooh, I haven’t read Grave Mercy, but this sounds interesting! I like the cover, the girl reminds me a little of Gemma Arteton (if that’s the spelling..) Great pick! :)
Ooooh! This does sound like something I would like to read! Thanks so much for spotlighting it today. Please check out my WoW!

I enjoyed Grave Mercy, but I did have a few issues here and there with it. I was super excited to learn, however, that the trilogy is actually a series of companion novels. I am also super curious to see what Sybella’s been up to, and then having Annith get some quality adventure time in the final book. And I want to know what reasons Sybella has been given to live!
