Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
This week I’m Waiting on Wednesday for All Our Pretty Songs by Sarah McCarry (St. Martin’s Griffin):
Set against the lush, magical backdrop of the Pacific Northwest, two inseparable best friends who have grown up like sisters—the charismatic, mercurial, and beautiful Aurora and the devoted, soulful, watchful narrator—find their bond challenged for the first time ever when a mysterious and gifted musician named Jack comes between them. Suddenly, each girl must decide what matters most: friendship, or love. What both girls don’t know is that the stakes are even higher than either of them could have imagined. They’re not the only ones who have noticed Jack’s gift; his music has awakened an ancient evil—and a world both above and below which may not be mythical at all. The real and the mystical; the romantic and the heartbreaking all begin to swirl together, carrying the two on journey that is both enthralling and terrifying.
And it’s up to the narrator to protect the people she loves—if she can.
Why I’m looking forward to this book:
Okay, first off, this is apparently a retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, so of course it’s straight up my Greek Mythology-loving alley. The sad thing is, I don’t actually have any other reason for wanting to read this, although the more I read the synopsis the more intrigued I become. Admittedly it sounds like this book has classic love triangle syndrome, but I have faith – particularly since it’s two girls and one guy instead of the other way around – that the ancient evil and whatnot may just balance it all out. And what’s up with the whole unnamed narrator thing? That definitely adds a unique twist.
Release Date: July 30, 2013
