Waiting on Wednesday #93

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I’m Waiting on Wednesday for Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen (Henry Holt & Co.):

beastkeeperSarah has always been on the move. Her mother hates the cold, so every few months her parents pack their bags and drag her off after the sun. She’s grown up lonely and longing for magic. She doesn’t know that it’s magic her parents are running from.

When Sarah’s mother walks out on their family, all the strange old magic they have tried to hide from comes rising into their mundane world. Her father begins to change into something wild and beastly, but before his transformation is complete, he takes Sarah to her grandparents—people she has never met, didn’t even know were still alive.

Deep in the forest, in a crumbling ruin of a castle, Sarah begins to untangle the layers of curses affecting her family bloodlines, until she discovers that the curse has carried over to her, too. The day she falls in love for the first time, Sarah will transform into a beast . . . unless she can figure out a way to break the curse forever.

Why I’m looking forward to this book:

This book sounds fairy tale-esque, doesn’t it? I don’t know if it’s based on anything in particular, but the mentions of magic and an old crumbling castle just draw me right in. Plus I’m a sucker for a good mystery, and a girl trying to trace her family’s bloodlines sounds like a perfect example of one.

Release Date: February 3, 2015

  1. Yesss. I saw this pop up on NetGalley somewhat recently and have been debating requesting it since. I just don’t know if I’ll have the TIME to read it. But it’s a BEAUTY AND THE BEAST retelling, right? Even if it isn’t, I’ve had it on my Goodreads TBR for some time and it sounds beastly and I really want to read it.

Thanks for visiting! I love receiving comments and do my best to respond to all of them. However, due to time constraints, this blog is now an award and tag free zone. I really appreciate the thought, but just don't have the time to pass them on.
