Waiting on Wednesday #99

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week I’m Waiting on Wednesday for Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway (HarperTeen):

emmyandoliver“We stayed and looked and waited for Oliver to come back, as if our love was a beacon that he could use to light his way home, to crawl up the sides of the earth and back through his front door, his shirt tag still sticking up in the back. After a while, though, after years passed and pictures changed and false tips fell through, it started to feel like the beacon wasn’t for him anymore. It was for those of us left behind, something to cling to when you realized that scary things could happen, that villains didn’t only exist in books, that Oliver might never come home. Until one day, he did.”

When Oliver was seven years old, his father kidnapped him in a custody dispute, spiriting him across the country and away from his family and his best friend, Emmy. Ten years later, Oliver is found and returns home, reuniting him with Emmy once again. But is their story still meant to be? Or are their hearts like the pieces of two different puzzles—impossible to fit together?

Why I’m looking forward to this book:

You pretty much just need to slap Robin Benway’s name on a book and I’m going to read it. Even though I haven’t read everything she’s written, what I have read I’ve loved, so I don’t expect Emmy & Oliver to be any different. Plus, I have a soft spot for the friends-into-lovers trope, and – assuming this one ends happily – seems to be where it’s headed.

Release Date: June 23, 2015

  5. The premise sounds quite interesting! You hear of parents taking kids in custody cases, but you usually don’t hear about the aftermath.

Thanks for visiting! I love receiving comments and do my best to respond to all of them. However, due to time constraints, this blog is now an award and tag free zone. I really appreciate the thought, but just don't have the time to pass them on.
