Top Ten Books I Feel As Though Everyone Has Read But Me

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of the bloggers there at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join!

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday post is actually a freebie, so I decided to delve into the TTT archives and find a topic I hadn’t done, and ultimately decided on the Top Ten Books I Feel As Though Everyone Has Read But Me. Because WOW are there a lot of them! Some of these are just books I have no interest in reading, but others are books that are on my to-read list that I simply haven’t gotten to. So many books, so little time, you know?

So here’s my list!

faultinourstars1) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Yep, I know. I haven’t actually read ANY John Green books, to be honest. And I probably am not going to, either. There’s just something about them – and him – that really kind of rubs me the wrong way.

catchingfire mockingjay
2) Catching Fire & Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
Read the first one, and found it so brutal and difficult that I couldn’t read the rest of them!

vampireacademy3) The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
I am actually intrigued by this series? And I own the first one, so. Might just check these out!

ifIstay4) If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Another one I own and have every intention of reading. I’ve actually not read ANY books by Gayle Forman, although pretty much all of them are on my to-read list.

legend5) Legend by Marie Lu
Not sure about this one, though. I’ve heard some mixed things. If you’ve read it, did you like it?

unearthly6) Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
I really want to read this one because I’ve heard amazing things. Which is precisely why I haven’t done it yet! I don’t want to go in expecting too much but I’m worried that my expectations for this one are off the charts.

everneath7) Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Another one I fully intend to read, particularly considering my love of mythology retellings. Plus I already own it, so don’t really have any excuses!

daughtersmokebone8) Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Another one that folks in the blogosphere went nuts over! I also have a friend who loved this book, so. Should probably check it out!

angelfall9) Angelfall by Susan Ee
Such high praise for this one! And thus, it makes me nervous. But I do really want to read it!

entwined10) Entwined by Heather Dixon
Another one I’ve heard amazing things about, and I’m a sucker for fairy tale retellings. Definitely want to cross this one off my to-read list!

So those are my ten for this week! Have you read any of these? Am I truly alone in not having gotten to them yet? Let me know in comments and make sure to link me up to your TTT post!

Don’t feel alone! I haven’t read any of those except for the Hunger Games series, and I really wish I hadn’t. Some of those I keep meaning to read, but I get distracted. :D

  2. ChrissiReads says:

I can highly recommend Everneath and Unearthly. They’re both brilliant books. It’s hard when they’re hyped. It certainly affects your experience!

  3. Andrea says:

100% agree with you on The Fault in our Stars. I had so many people recommend it to me that it completely turned me off reading it and any of his books.

  4. booksofamber says:

Vampire Academy is epic! The first two books aren’t AMAZING, but they’re still really captivating. Then you get to Shadow Kiss and everything explodes.

  5. Rachana says:

Of the books on your list, I haven’t read If I Stay, Unearthly, Angel Fall or Entwined! :)

  6. Cait says:

I usually feel quite slow and alone with catching up on the famous reads, BUT last year I did really well reading some of the famous ones. (Like Daughter of Smoke and Bone and If I Stay!) XD I still have to read Vampire Academy. I’m totally not into vampires, but I’ve known a lot of people who say it’s super good and to give it a chance anyway. So! When my TBR is a little smaller?! lol Here’s my TTT!

  7. I also haven’t read anything from John Green and never plan to either. That is partly because I don’t like contemporary books anyway but also think he is too hyped. I loved the Legend series and of course the Hunger Games one. I did also like Angelfall but not the second book World After. I thought the Vampire Academy was only okay but I heard they get better as they go along and I wasn’t a huge fan of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Hyped up books can be soo hit and miss so you are better off just reading what you think you will like rather than what everyone seems to be loving, that is what I have finally realised haha

  8. kirstviz says:

I’ve only read a few on that list . . Hunger Games (but thought Mockingjay was the weakest book), If I Stay (which I LOVED!), Everneath (but not its sequel) and Vampire Academy (no comment!) . . I have copies of all of the others but they are still waiting patiently to be read. I agree that when I read books which have been hyped up, and don’t like them, I think something must be wrong with me . . .I HATED Beautiful Disaster :-(

  9. bookgeeking says:

I’ve read half of legend and got bored, wasn’t what I expected. May try and read it again sometime but not sure.
I actually love the hunger games series but the first one is the best :)

  10. Kim says:

Vampire Academy is one of my most favorite series of all time! I personally loved If I Stay, but it’s a love or hate kind of book. Hope you get to read these soon! :)

  11. I’ve read more than half of your picks and I can safely say I loved all of them. The first Hunger Games is infinitely better than the other two, but I still enjoyed them.

My Top Ten Covers Of 2015.

  12. I still haven’t read Daughter of Smoke and Bone but plan to this month! Can’t wait to finally get to it!

  13. Savindi says:

I haven’t read The Hunger Games trilogy either, but I feel like I should read them at some point because they’re supposed to be fast reads. I do feel like Battle Royale must be more brutal than The Hunger Games. I think I’m in the minority where I actually didn’t like If I Stay or it’s sequel which I didn’t even finish, but I hope you enjoy it! I’ve heard so much about Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but never really gotten around to reading it even though I’ve seen it on sale at the bookstore. So many books to read!

  14. I feel like this, too. That there are so many books everyone else has read but I haven’t. But I haven’t read a lot of these books either. I haven’t read Vampire Academy, and I haven’t even read the first Hunger Games. I’ve never read Entwined, either, though I definitely want to.

  15. bendingoverbookwards says:

I haven’t read a lot of those either- it’s always a bit intimidating with huge successful books and I worry that they won’t be as good as I’ve heard. Great idea for a list!

  16. This is a great list! It may inspire me to make my own sometime soon. I always think of this when I see different books referenced ALL the time and I haven’t read them yet.

  17. Nice topic!! The only book on your list that I’ve only read is The Fault in Our Stars and it was amazing. Here’s my TTT post for the week:

  18. Rachel says:

Don’t worry, there’s LOADS of these I haven’t read yet either, and some I wasn’t sure if I was ever planning to. Definitely loved Hunger Games though! R x

    My TTT:

  19. Lauren says:

I have read the first Vampire Academy book and I was actually pretty pleased by it! :)
As for Legend, I would say it’s just alright. The series gets better as it goes on though.
Yes, you must read Daughter of Smoke and Bone immediately because it really is that good! The same goes for Angelfall!

    Check out my TTT.

  20. I love this theme, actually! I wish I’d thought of it! I think UNEARTHLY would be the one to put at the top of your list. I don’t like angel books at all…loved this one. Still haven’t read the finale…I’m afraid for it all to be over! DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE is one for me, too! Again, angels…. but I hear it’s so good! Ooh, and I do also love ENTWINED! Today, I reviewed TEAR YOU APART by Sarah Cross, which also has elements of Twelve Dancing Princesses in it if you want to win a copy :)

  21. bellarah says:

I won’t read John Green books either, even though I’ve had The Fault in Our Stars on my Kindle since 2012… I’m so sick of the hype, I never want to see the cover again and the fans scare me too much!
