Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
This week’s Waiting on Wednesday post is for Unbreakable (Unraveling #2) by Elizabeth Norris (Balzer + Bray):
NOTE: Summary contains spoilers for the first book, Unraveling.
Four months after Ben disappeared through the portal to his home universe, Janelle believes she’ll never see him again. Her world is still devastated, but life is finally starting to resume some kind of normalcy. Until Interverse Agent Taylor Barclay shows up. Somebody from an alternate universe is running a human trafficking ring, kidnapping people and selling them on different Earths—and Ben is the prime suspect. Now his family has been imprisoned and will be executed if Ben doesn’t turn himself over within five days.
And when Janelle learns that someone she cares about—someone from her own world—has become one of the missing, she knows that she has to help Barclay, regardless of the danger. Now Janelle has five days to track down the real culprit. Five days to locate the missing people before they’re lost forever. Five days to reunite with the boy who stole her heart. But as the clues begin to add up, Janelle realizes that she’s in way over her head—and that she may not have known Ben as well as she thought. Can she uncover the truth before everyone she cares about is killed?
Why I’m looking forward to this book:
I really loved Unraveling. Perhaps it wasn’t completely unique, perhaps there were some tropes that are extremely prevalent in other stories. But I simply didn’t care. Unraveling grabbed hold of me and wouldn’t let me go until I finished the book; I basically read it straight through without stopping. The ending broke my heart in more ways than one, and – while I could have seen it easily being a standalone – I desperately hoped that Janelle would get some sort of happily-ever-after – or at least as happily-ever-after as you can when your world was nearly destroyed. This book seems to have the same sense of go-go-go that Unraveling had, with the same feel. I anticipate many twists and turns, and can’t wait to see what comes next.
Release Date: April 23, 2013
